Our Make-at-Home Bloody Mary Cocktail Recipe

Get ready to tickle your tastebuds. Here’s a Bloody Mary cocktail recipe you can make at home (did you really think we would give away ALL of our Bloody Mary secrets?):

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 oz vodka
  • 1/2 oz lemon juice
  • 3 oz tomato juice
  • One dash of hot sauce or more, to taste (such as Tabasco)
  • One dash of Worcestershire sauce
  • Pinch of salt and pepper
  • Celery salt, or other salt for rimming the glass (optional)
  • Celery stalk, for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Rim a highball glass with salt of your choice by running a lemon wedge around the rim and dipping it in the salt (optional)
  2. Fill the glass with ice
  3. Mix tomato juice, vodka, Worcestershire sauce,  lemon juice, hot sauce, salt, and pepper in a shaker
  4. Don’t shake it, but “roll” it, using a gentle back and forth motion, and strain into the prepared glass. Rolling merges the vodka and tomato juice mixture and thickens it slightly
  5. Garnish with a celery stalk
  6. Optionally, garnish with other creative garnishes, such as bacon strips, shrimp, or cheese cubes on a skewer for a personalized touch.

Enjoy your classic Bloody Mary cocktail!

Bloody Mary Fun Facts

The Bloody Mary cocktail is believed to have been created in the 1920s or 1930s. This makes it a relatively modern classic in the world of cocktails.

The origins of the name “Bloody Mary” are unclear. However, various theories suggest it may have been named after Queen Mary I of England or a waitress named Mary who worked at a Chicago bar. Quite a difference, and like most cocktail origins, we’ll probably never know for sure.

Every year on January 1st, cocktail enthusiasts worldwide celebrate “Bloody Mary Day.” This annual observance pays homage to the enduring appeal of the Bloody Mary. And undoubtedly helps observers recover from partying the night before!
